AI and Your Data

Zaaheen uses three small AI models, each with one job:

• Understanding meaning, so a search for "my coffee order" also finds "I drink flat whites". It comes with the app.
• Ranking results, so the most relevant memories come first. The app downloads it the first time it starts.
• Tidying up, which merges duplicates and settles contradictions. The app downloads it only when you turn tidying on, about 2.5 GB, once.

All three run on your own computer, using its processor. Once downloaded, they work offline, and your memories never pass through an online AI service on the way. That is why Zaaheen can promise that we never see your memories: there is no server in the middle to see them.

When an AI app such as Claude or ChatGPT asks Zaaheen a question, Zaaheen hands back the memories that match, as they are stored. It doesn't make up an answer or talk to you. The AI app you are using writes the reply, using those facts.

Tidying up merges near-duplicates into one memory, settles facts that contradict each other in favour of the newer one, and moves memories you never use out of everyday recall. It also writes short summaries of each topic and adds other ways of phrasing a memory, so your AI apps find it whatever words they use.

It works only from what you have saved and never deletes a memory. Like any AI, it can occasionally get something wrong, so check anything important before relying on it.

Tidying is off unless you switch on Keep my vault tidy automatically. You choose every day or once a week and the time, or run it yourself whenever you like. You can turn it off again at any time.

We never use your memories to train AI models, and we never give them to anyone who would. We couldn't even if we wanted to: they never reach us.

The AI apps you connect are made by other companies. When one uses a memory to answer you, it may send that memory to its maker's servers as part of your conversation. What happens next, including whether your conversations train their models, depends on that company's policy and your settings with them. You choose which apps to connect, and you can remove Zaaheen from any of them at any time.
